Poem «Ancient Russia»

In April 2009, a pagan rock band from Tver, Tverd, started composing music to a little-known poem by a very talented contemporary poet, writer and journalist Ilya Maslov. We are grieved to say that, unfortunately, the author of the Ancient Russia poem will never hear the opera based on his brilliant creation. The opera is to be performed by Tverd rock group along with a Russian folk orchestra, and a brass band.
The poem tells about the great and heroic period of formation of the state of Ancient Russia (Rus’), from the reigning of Ryurik and until the time of Grand Prince Vladimir Monomakh. The poem is based on the true history of Ancient Russia, the author having made use of actual historical and scientific sources.
It is planned to use 5.1 recording for a few parts of the opera, which will allow a more profound immersion into its atmosphere. This recording format is not new, however its use for the given genre will be innovative, therefore it may bring some new discoveries to music amateurs.
The composing of the folk opera is to be accompanied with the publication of a cognominal book that currently exists as a manuscript only. Insight Studio will be in charge of illustrating and designing of the book (earlier the studio designed Tverd’s latest CD). Several artists and designers specializing in graphic and web design will participate in the illustrating of the book.
We would like to remind that recently Tverd band recorded its first album Following the Sun, a few compositions of which also used verses of Ilya Maslov. The album has been highly appreciated by both Russian and foreign listeners and critics.
